Skye Thompson
I'm a birth doula and an occupational therapist. I love to help people find success and fulfilment in everyday activities, like birth! With eight years of experience working in mental health and addiction recovery, I bring a unique and compassionate skill set to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support to clients who may be facing additional challenges during their pregnancy and postpartum journey.

Having had two home births myself, I have a deep appreciation for the unique and intimate experience that birthing at home offers. While I work with clients in all birth settings, I bring an experienced perspective to those planning a home birth. No matter where you choose to welcome your baby, I promote the familiarity and warmth of home in your birth space.

I live in South Minneapolis with my husband and three young boys who keep us active and exploring our city. We enjoy biking the Mississippi River trails and trying new playgrounds (bonus if they have a coffee shop or food truck nearby!).
My Why
My interest in birthwork began after the birth of my second of three children. With only my husband for support, my first birth was a lackluster experience. It was stressful, sensations felt unbearable, and I didn't like how the epidural affected my body. Everyone was safe and healthy at the end of it all, but the experience left me thinking, "how did we end up here?", and wondering, "is there more to hope for than healthy mom, healthy baby in a birth?".
After a tough postpartum and transition to into motherhood, I became pregnant with my second baby and I knew I wanted things to be different. I switched care providers and hired a doula who aligned with my hopes for birth. When birthing time began, sensations felt so much more manageable (and even ecstatic at times!) despite having an unmedicated birth. I was even empowered to catch my own baby and bring him to my chest myself. My doula was so influential in my positive birth experience. She believed in me, advocated for me, and brought love and peace to my birth space.
The birth support, labor sensations, and sense of empowerment were starkly contrasted from my first birth. My positive birth experience carried into my second postpartum time. I felt connected to my body and my baby, and my confidence in my mothering intuition grew. I feel fortunate I got to experience how good birth and postpartum can be, and I want that for other families. But it wasn't by luck. I surrounded myself with birth support who aligned with my hopes and dreams. They cared about more than just healthy mom and baby, they truly cared about me and cared for me.

Every person going through birth deserves to have someone in their corner. When someone feels empowered and proud of their birth experience, it supports their mental health, their bond with baby, and their transition into parenthood. I want to help promote the beauty and joy that birth and postpartum can hold for families by helping them have the unique birth experience they desire.
